16/03 VCT Timeline Project

For our current Visual Cultural Theory project we have to chose a subject within art and design and produce a timeline with images and 1000 words. I first decided I wanted to research the relationship between music and design and had a few ideas how to narrow it down. I was particularly interested in album cover design, specifically those from the 60's and 70's. I took a trip to the St Bride library to do some research but was completely overwhelmed all the material on my subject area.

I therefore tried to narrow it down but was having trouble defining what I wanted to look at. I had a tutorial with Paul, one of the FdA tutors and, after telling him my thoughts so far, he suggested that I investigate the role of the album cover. This makes a lot of sense as it will let me look at album cover design over a number of decades without having to cover so much material.

These are some of the beautiful album covers I've seen stacked up in my Dad's music room or elsewhere that sparked my interest in this subject area.
